ERIA’s Annual Report 2023 highlights the organisation’s wide range of activities, including research, seminars, capacity building, policy design, and dissemination initiatives. In his message, the newly appointed President of ERIA, Tetsuya Watanabe, appreciates the collective efforts of all members that have solidified ERIA’s position as a premier policy think tank in ASEAN and East Asia.
The report emphasises the critical issues facing the region, such as geopolitical instability, food and energy security, supply chain risks, and climate change. In response, ERIA has evolved to meet these challenges by providing thorough analyses and objective assessments to guide policymakers. The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated digital transformation in ASEAN, and ERIA established the E-DISC to foster a safe, transparent, and sustainable digital environment. Research highlights ASEAN's potential in the global digital economy while promoting inclusive development goals.
In the energy sector, ERIA focused on regional carbon trading systems, the ASEAN power grid, and renewable energy development. Notably, ERIA’s work led to participation in the Asia Zero Emission Community Leaders’ Meeting. ERIA continued efforts in supply chain resilience, trade facilitation, environment, healthcare, and agriculture, contributing to high-level policy discussions and garnering recognition for its support of ASEAN initiatives.
Throughout FY2023, in collaboration with our member countries, ERIA hosted global multilateral forums, including the ASEAN Chairmanship, G20 Presidency, and G7 Presidency. This showcases the organisation's commitment to bridging the gap between research and policy implementation, facilitated by a robust network of leaders across sectors.
