The 3rd Working Group meeting for the preparation of the energy outlook, including the analysis of energy saving potential, in East Asia conducted by the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), was held on 8-11 April 2014 at the Orchid Garden Hotel, Bandar Seri Begawan in Brunei Darussalam.
The Energy Department of the Office of the Prime Minister of Brunei Darussalam hosted the meeting which was attended by around 30 experts on energy outlook preparation from the ASEAN and East Asia countries.
On this occasion, Dato Paduka Haji Awang Jamain bin Haji Julaihi, SOE leader of Brunei Darussalam and also the Permanent Secretary for Downstream and Power, Prime Minister's Office (PMO), emphasized in his opening speech on the importance of energy efficiency as core component of the sustainable energy future for the East Asian region. Mr. Shimpei Yamamoto, Managing Director for Research Affairs at ERIA, echoed the Secretary's message as he talked about the necessity of energy efficiency. He also thanked the members of the Working Group (WG) for their continued hard work which has led to outputs that have greatly contributed to the policy formulation process in the EAS region. Mr. Shigeru Kimura, the leader of the WG and also the Special Advisor to the ERIA Executive Director on Energy Affairs, meanwhile, assured everyone that the WG's activities will remain very relevant and responsive to the promotion of energy efficiency and conservation in the countries of the East Asian region. He also mentioned that this is one of the most important works that support the Energy Efficiency Workstream tasked out by the East Asia Summit-Energy Ministers Meeting (EAS-EMM). The meeting then proceeded with the presentation by the experts from each East Asia economy on their respective country's energy outlook and energy efficiency efforts.
