This book attempts to address the twin issues of the growing opportunities for agricultural development and trade arising from a robustly growing East Asia on the one hand and the political and social imperative of food security in the region on the other hand.

Broadly, the key way forward is to have a relatively more open agricultural economy in tandem with investments in productivity-enhancing interventions like irrigation and agricultural research and development while engendering regional cooperative efforts that redress or temper the negative welfare effects of crises and natural disasters.
