International Symposium on East Asia Beyond the Global Economic Crisis was held on 1 December 2009 in Tokyo, Japan. The symposium was co-organized by ERIA and the Institute of Developing Economies, Japan External Trade Organizations (IDE-JETRO).

In the opening address, Prime Minister of Japan, H.E.Dr. Hatoyama expressed his strong hope that ERIA would make a great contribution toward East Asian Community with the strong leadership of H.E.Dr. Surin Pitsuwan.
