Jakarta, 22 November 2023: The 37th ASEAN Summit in November 2020 marked a pivotal moment in envisioning the ASEAN Community’s Post-2025 Vision. As tasked by the Ha Noi Declaration, the ASEAN Coordinating Council (ACC) directed the need for a comprehensive, pragmatic, balanced, inclusive, and coordinated approach towards the development of this vision. 

In line with this mission, the High-Level Task Force on ASEAN Economic Integration (HLTF-EI), per the mandate from the 28th ASEAN Economic Ministers (28th AEM) Retreat held in March 2022, has established a Working Group on AEC Post-2025 to collaborate with AEC-related stakeholders, seeking their invaluable inputs and recommendations for the AEC’s Post-2025 Vision and attendant document. At the 44th HLTF-EI Meeting, several stakeholder engagement strategies, which will include public surveys, direct interfaces, and consultative workshops were agreed upon. 

We believe that this engagement should be participatory and inclusive, involving national stakeholders such as business sectors, micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), civil societies, academia, think tanks, individuals, and marginalized communities. This will ensure the broad representation of voices. 

To achieve this aim, ERIA in collaboration with the ASEAN Secretariat has developed a survey focusing on AEC Aspects of Post-2025 Vision. This survey, supported by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ), aims to capture the general sentiments and perspectives of ASEAN stakeholders. It seeks to engage not only those participating in Direct Interface/Focus Group Discussions and Consultation Workshops but also a wider audience to contribute to the End-Term Review of the AEC Blueprint 2025 and the development of the AEC Community Vision 2045 and its Strategic Plan.
