Mr. Hidetoshi Nishimura, Executive Director of ERIA, met with Mr. Kittirat Na-Ranong Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce of Thailand on 26 September 2011. Mr. Nishimura highlighted about the importance of support from Thai government (in particular - the connectivity between Thailand and Myanmar) in the implementation of Mekong-India Economic Corridor (MIEC) which is one of the model projects of Comprehensive Asia Development Plan (CADP) and one of the key actions mentioned in Master Plan on ASEAN Connectivity (MPAC). Regarding the MIEC, Minister Kittirat said that strong support from the government in the related countries is essential and add that it would be highly effective if ERIA could offer a direction for developing reliable legal framework in Thailand.

On the same day, Mr. Nishimura also met with Mr. Arkhom Termpittayapaisith, Secretary-General of National Economic and Social Development Board. Towards the implementation of the MIEC, Mr. Arkhom mentioned about the need for international cooperation and support from Japan and particularly expected strong cooperation from Myanmar government.
