Jakarta, 8 June 2023: ERIA’s Strategy and Partnership Division welcomed a delegation of 25 delegates from ASEAN countries on 8 June 2023, as part of the ASEAN Leaders Programme 2023 organized by Common Purpose Organization. Common Purpose is a global leadership organization established in 1989, with offices in Europe and Asia, dedicated to fostering boundary-crossing leadership.
The visit aimed to provide the delegates with insights into ERIA's work, particularly in the areas of climate action and sustainability. The program focused on bringing together leaders from different sectors of society, including government, business, and civil society, to explore innovative problem-solving approaches at both systemic and organizational levels, addressing significant regional challenges.
The visit commenced with a tour of the ERIA office, followed by an hour-long discussion. Dr Giulia Ajmone Marsan, Director of Strategy and Partnership, provided a brief overview of ERIA's establishment and its core mandate. Dr Alloysius Joko Purwanto, ERIA Energy Economist, shared his work on policy alternatives to support Net Zero Emissions in ASEAN, discussing various scenarios for ASEAN Carbon Neutrality by 2060 based on the latest ERIA study.
Ayako Mizuno, Program Manager at ERIA Regional Knowledge Centre of Marine Plastic Debris (RKC-MPD), then explained the RKC-MPD programs and the centre’s collaborative efforts with the public and private sectors to address marine plastic pollution. The Q&A session facilitated discussions on ERIA's initiatives to support energy transition in less advanced countries within the region and strategies to promote innovation for reducing marine plastic pollution.
