ERIA Takes Part in the 27th Meeting of the ASEAN Tourism Ministers

Vientiane, 25 January 2024: The President of ERIA, Tetsuya Watanabe, presented ERIA’s support for ASEAN Tourism Cooperation during the 27th Meeting of ASEAN Tourism Ministers in the capital of Lao PDR, Vientiane, on Thursday. He underscored that while ASEAN tourism recovery is well underway, achieving sustainable tourism remains a challenge.

President Watanabe also mentioned the need for an Action Roadmap to guide sustainable tourism strategies in ASEAN Member States (AMS), based on the ASEAN Framework on Sustainable Tourism Development. In this regard, ERIA is pleased to present its latest publication on Action Roadmap for Sustainable Tourism Development in ASEAN to the ASEAN Tourism Ministers during the meeting. President Watanabe also provided strategic proposals to the ministers to strengthen tourism cooperation among ASEAN countries.

Prior to this, ERIA’s Senior Economic Advisor, Dr Aladdin D. Rillo, also presented ERIA’s support to senior officers from the ASEAN Tourism Ministry at the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2024, emphasising that ERIA stands ready to support them in charting the course for sustainable tourism in the region.
