ERIA Pays Courtesy Visit to the Minister of Industry and Trade in Viet Nam

Hanoi, 17 January 2020:  A delegation from the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), led by Professor Hidetoshi Nishimura, President of ERIA, paid a courtesy visit to His Excellency Mr Tran Tuan Anh, Minister of Industry and Trade of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam at the office of the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) in Hanoi, Viet Nam.

Prof Nishimura discussed several deliverables of Viet Nam’s chairmanship of ASEAN in 2020 including the AEC Blueprint 2025, infrastructure development, and energy.  He also reviewed the on-going collaboration between the Government of Viet Nam and ERIA on the automobile industry.

Prof Jun Arima, Senior Policy Fellow on Energy and Environment of ERIA, and Professor of the University of Tokyo, explained the current situation of global energy transformation as discussed at the  Conference of Parties 25 (COP25) at the end of 2019 and current discussions of the Development Assistance Committee (DAC) of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

Minister Anh looked forward to the completion of several ERIA studies and expressed the willingness of applying the results of ERIA studies for Vietnamese policies.  The Minister also shared his views of the current energy situation in the region.
