Kuala Lumpur, 4 October 2023: A delegation representing the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) paid a courtesy visit to the Honorable Tan Sri Dato’ Johari Bin Abdul, the Speaker of the Malaysian Parliament. Leading the ERIA delegation were Prof Tetsuya Watanabe, President of ERIA, and Dr Intan Murnira Ramli, Senior Policy Fellow. The ERIA delegation was part of a larger group, which included Prof Dr Sufian Jusoh, Director of the Malaysian Institute for Malaysia and International Studies (IKMAS), and Mr Mohd Hariszuan Jaharuddin, Research Fellow at IKMAS.

During the meeting, H.E. Speaker shared his insights on Malaysia's current state and expressed a keen interest in understanding ERIA's role and activities in supporting ASEAN and its Member States. Given the Malaysian Parliament's central role as the host for the 46th ASEAN Inter-parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), H.E. Speaker highlighted the Parliament's forthcoming responsibilities. In light of this, he proposed a collaborative effort between the Parliament, ERIA, and IKMAS to prepare for Malaysia's ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025.
