ERIA Joins Startup20 Meeting

Goa, 3–4 June 2023: The Group of Twenty (G20) Innovation Community met in Goa, India, to discuss the advancement of Startup20, the newly established engagement group on startup and innovation under India’s G20 Presidency. Representatives from G20 member countries, international organisations, startup entrepreneurs, investors, and innovators met and discussed the findings and conclusions of the various Startup20 task forces, as well as the Startup20 policy communique. During the meeting, various startuppers from India’s innovation ecosystem presented their works and business models and discussed opportunities and challenges of entrepreneurship in G20 nations.
Mr Shri Piyush Goyal, India’s Minister of Textile, Minister of Commerce and Industry, and Minister of Consumer Affairs Food and Public Distribution; Mr Shri Rohan Khaunte, Minister of Tourism, IT, and Printing and Stationery; Mr Shri Som Parkash, Minister of State, Commerce and Industry; Mr Shri Puneet Kumar, Chief Secretary of Goa; and Dr Pramod Sawant, Chief Minister of Goa, delivered special addresses.
Dr Giulia Ajmone Marsan, Director of Strategy and Partnership at the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) and Co-chair of the Startup 20 Inclusion Task Force, represented ERIA. She highlighted the need for evidence-based recommendations, particularly the positive effect of mobility and international talent flows for innovation and entrepreneurship. Providing an overview of the entire Startup20 process, she emphasised the contribution of the G20 startup community to the Sustainable Development Goals agenda, which she described as ‘startup for inclusion’.
