Communications Officer

Profile

Tunggul joined ERIA in August 2024 as the Communications Officer for the ERIA School of Government. Prior to this, he worked for over 20 years in some of Indonesia’s leading English-language media outlets. Most recently, he was a Features Journalist at The Jakarta Post newspaper. Before his time at The Jakarta Post, he served as an Associate Editor for Kompas.com’s English-language website, Kompas Go, a Senior Features Journalist at The Jakarta Globe newspaper, and an Associate Producer for Metro TV’s daily English-language news show, Indonesia This Morning.

In addition to his media work, Tunggul has translated and edited several books. These include Tales from the Lands Beneath the Winds (Negeri di Bawah Angin) by the Negeri Rempah Foundation, which won the 2023 Gourmand World Cookbook Awards Special Award of the Jury, and Islam in Japanese Eyes: Conversations with Indonesian Muslims (Islam di Mata Orang Jepang: Gus Dur Sampai Baasyir) by Professor Hisanori Kato.

Beyond the media, he has also collaborated with several international organisations, including supporting ASEAN with the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP), assisting the Indonesian-German Chamber of Commerce (EKONID) with the Clean Batik Initiative (CBI), and working with the Goethe Institut on a survey titled Muslim Youth in Southeast Asia.

Education

Tunggul holds a B.A. in International Relations from Webster University in Geneva, Switzerland, and an M.A. in Creative Writing from the University of Portsmouth in England.
