On 7 December 2022, the LeidenAsiaCentre together with GLOBTAXGOV and the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), organises a webinar on Asian-European cooperation in the digital sphere. The webinar will specifically focus on the building of inclusive digital societies. This means that individuals, particularly those in disadvantaged groups, have access to, and the skills to use ICT and are therefore able to participate in and benefit from the emergent digital society. In which ways can Asia and Europe cooperate in creating inclusive digital societies? What forms of cooperation between Asian and European countries already exist in the digital sphere?

This webinar follows the 13th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Summit, and the book 'Multilateral Cooperation for a Resilient, Sustainable, and Rules-Based Future for ASEM', which was a result of that summit.

Short Bio of Speakers and Moderator

Irma Mosquera Valderrama, PhD is Full Professor Tax Governance and PhD Dean at Leiden Law School (Leiden University), the Netherlands. She is also the EU Jean Monnet Chair Holder on the topic of EU Tax Governance (EUTAXGOV), and Lead Researcher of the European Research Council (ERC) Funded Project that investigates Global Tax Governance (GLOBTAXGOV). Her areas of expertise are international tax law and comparative tax law in developed and developing countries and more recently exchange of information and BEPS-related issues in developing countries.

Flavia Jurje Trifa PhD, is the Head of Policy and Government Affairs at the digital consultancy firm ZIMT Labs. Previously, she worked as a senior researcher and lecturer at the University of Geneva/Global Studies Institute and at the University of Lucerne, and was a visiting fellow at the London School of Economics and Political Science. Her main research focus is on global trade regulations and migration, the role of business in international migration governance, and labour mobility in regional integration frameworks. For the 13th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM), she wrote about Asia-Europe cooperation on labour mobility, education and training.

Emmanuel C. Lallana, PhD is the Chief Executive of Ideacorp – an independent, non-profit organization in the Philippines. He works on ICT for development (ICT4D) issues, particularly ICT Policy Development, ICT in Education and e-Governance. He has published on ICT4D issues and trains government officials from developing countries on ICT policy development, eGovernance and Social Media for Development. For the 13th ASEM, he wrote on building inclusive digital societies.

Lurong Chen, PhD is Senior Economist at ERIA. His research interests include digital economy, Asian regionalism, global value chains, trade in services, and IPRs. He is also working on FTAs, Chinese economy, and RCEP negotiation. Before joining ERIA, Dr Chen was a Research Fellow at the United Nations University.

Moderator: Anita Prakash is a Senior Policy Advisor in the Office of the President of the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), Jakarta, Indonesia. She provides policy and research support for bilateral and multilateral processes between ASEAN and its Dialogue Partners, the Trade Ministers meetings in ASEAN, the East Asia Summit, the Asia-Europe Meeting, and the G20. Her policy research covers international trade and investment with a focus on GVCs and supply chains, and connectivity plans in Southeast Asia, East Asia, and between Asia-Europe and Asia-Africa. Her current research focus is on emerging economic architecture and supply chains in the Indo-Pacific.
