The Seminar "Utilizing an Efficient Infrastructure Development Framework" with the topic of Public-Private Partnership (PPP) was organized by Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) and co-organized by Ministry of National Planning and Economic Development (NPED), Myanmar and supported by Bangkok Research Center, JETRO Bangkok and JETRO Yangon on July 24, 2013 in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar.

70 officials from various ministries and private sector attended the event. The main objectives of this seminar was aiming at achieving to disseminate the lessons on the PPP assessment study, provide examples from best practices in Australia, as a leading country in PPP experience and implementation, sharing basic ideas on the PPP scheme, to show its effectiveness to the key players in Lao PDR for her future infrastructure development and to present recommendations for reform, facilitate exchange of views among stakeholders in the country (contractors, government, financiers, academia) as well as with international experts from both public and private sector on the necessary steps towards implementing the PPP model, and encourage stakeholders in Lao PDR to take further steps to increase private sector participation in infrastructure development as well as to prepare for adoption of PPP policy through strong cooperation between public and private sector.

Black, Emeritus Professor, University of New South Wales, Australia, Prof. Thida Khyu, Professor, Ministry of Education, Myanmar, Daw New Ni Win Kyaw, Assistant Director, Department of Civil Aviation, Ministry of Transport, Myanmar, Mr. Kel O'Keefe, Legal Consultant, Sydney, Australia, Mr. Louie Ferrer, Chief marketing Officer, Megawide Corporation, Philippines and Dr. Leonie Lethbridge, Chief Operating Officer, PT. Bank ANZ Indonesia.

It was opened by H.E. Dr. Khin San Yee, Deputy Minister of National Planning and Economic Development (NPED), Myanmar and Prof. Yasuhiro Yamada, Special Assistant to the Executive Director of ERIA and President, Bangkok Research Center, IDE-JETRO.

Mr. Mario D'Elia, Partner, Infrastructure Advisory, PWC, Australia, said that infrastructural projects must be chosen with care to ensure that they are sustainable and beneficial to the public.ERIA has conducted several studies in infrastructure development in ASEAN with emphasis on the utilization of private-sector participation.
